Community Airport Newcomers Network (CANN)

Funded by: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

Services Provided by: S.U.C.C.E.S.S.

Our Mission

Facilitating the pre-settlement and integration of all new immigrants arriving in Canada through the Vancouver International Airport.

Our Goal

The multilingual services lessen the time taken and the stress experienced by newcomers in their initial stages of settlement by providing them with orientation and information, and referring them to other organizations throughout Canada which help newcomers. The orientation and information provided also help newcomers learn about life in Canada and understand their rights and responsibilities.

History and Background:

The program is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and its services are provided by S.U.C.C.E.S.S., a major settlement and community services organization with over 40 locations in Canada and Asia. Since 1992, CANN has provided services to over 1.1 million newcomers arriving in Canada through the Vancouver International Airport. CANN also began providing services to government-assisted and privately-sponsored refugees in 1997.

Highlights of our services:

  • Welcome reception and orientation to landing procedures
  • Information and orientation on settlement in Canada, including medical insurance, education for adults and children, employment, accreditation, business, housing, and more
  • Quick linking of newcomers to national settlement and integration resources
  • Additional assistance is based on the need for government-assisted and privately-sponsored refugees.

Delivery methods:

Utilizing the latest in modern technology, CANN delivers customized settlement information and referrals based on the needs and requirements of each individual newcomer. In addition to receiving selected information and services at the CANN kiosk in person, newcomers also have access to mobile content and an electronic kiosk located inside the immigration landing room. Up-to-date information related to relevant workshops and events in the community is also provided to newcomers via follow-up emails and on the CANN website at www.cannyvr.ca.

Location and Hours of Operation:

The CANN kiosk is located in the immigration landing room of the international arrivals area at the Vancouver International Airport and is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm seven days a week, except for statutory holidays. Operating hours are often extended to provide assistance to government-assisted and privately-sponsored refugees.
