Event: Skills Training for Arabic-speaking Refugees (S.T.A.R. Program)
The S.T.A.R. (Skills Training for Arabic-Speaking Refugees) Program is a ten week, pre-employment training program for Arabic-speaking Syrian refugees. Participants will receive English language, life skills and employment-related training for the workplace. The program offers short-term certification training such as (WHMIS, FOODSAFE, Forklift, First Aid, SuperHost) and in addition to that provides participants and their families with medical accompaniment for participants and their families to ensure a successful pathway to employment. Syrian refugees are given priority for enrollment.

As of June 2018, there are 25.4 million refugees around the world according to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) statistic. Over half of the refugees are under the age of 18 and 57% of the world refugees came from following three countries: Syria, Afghanistan and South Sudan.
